The Shahbandar Hills Hiking Experience

Bukit Shahbandar Recreational Park is situated on the coastal highway between Tungku and Jerudong. That is about 20 minutes drive from BSB. It covers over 70 hectares of forests and hills. Here, it is very popular for the hikers starting from early morning to late afternoon. Later than 5.30pm, I would advice you all not to hike the hills or it is going to be totally dark in the jungle.

There are numerous trails that give some good walk from a gentle stroll through man-made forest of pine trees to longer challlenging trails ranging from two hills up to nine hills through the jungle. My uncle had told me that his friends and him had done the 16 hills here. That was amazing, and for that I'm sure that you had to start early say 3 hours before dark.

At certain hill top you can actually view the beautiful of tall buildings around Bandar Seri Begawan city, Jerudong Parks, Moon Sighting tower,  the South China Sea and even the Empire Hotel and Country Club.

I would suggest that for the beginner, you should try out the 2 or 5 hills trail first and then slowly next to more than five for the next hiking here. Along the way, you will hear the noise of the monkeys, trees swaying when there is wind, and other nature sound which soots our ears. If you hike more than 5 hills, you will have to cross the streams of water from the hills using the man made bridge. Beside that there is some challenging trails where you need to be careful and see where you place your steps especially on the roots.

Overall, I would encourage you to feel the experience here and depends on your stamina you can choose which trails you like to explores. But the main point is you will definitely enjoy it.

Back to fitness

For my fitness test recently I obtain a C and my biomass status is obese. Gosh! What a nightmare. So, I need to shape-up a bit. These few days, Alhamdullilah due to the fine weather in the afternoon, I started to walk and jog at Bukit Shahbandar. Someone ask me, how about your gym membership in JPMC? I had paid it but unfortunately I had done a lot of exercises there but the sweat that came out of my body was not that much. Must be the cold environment I think. So I decided to try the hill. I had tried the Shahbandar hill and Ambok Hill in Tutong. I really enjoyed it because I did sweat a lot. Hopefully, from here my biomass status will change to normal...
